Receive Pet Care from Home

Tipp City Veterinary Hospital is now offering telemedicine (virtual visits) to our current patients with an app called TeleVet! Instead of searching online for pet advice, talk directly to a doctor that knows your pet. With TeleVet, you can easily send virtual consultation requests to us. TeleVet allows you to schedule time directly with a doctor on your time from home; options include texting, video chats, or phone calls!

Telemedicine visits allow you to

  • Minimize stress for nervous pets
  • Save travel, time, and money
  • Avoid risk of COVID-19 exposure
  • Schedule a dedicated time to speak to a doctor
  • Discuss or follow up on medical issues and behavior concerns
  • Have medication ready for pick up or shipped to your house

From Jenny T.: I used the telehealth option for the first time and it was very convenient and very easy to use. I would highly recommend for anyone who has a pet with a basic need to use this service. I had my visit and got my pet’s prescription in only one day instead of waiting for an in-person appointment and no need to worry about social distancing.

What sort of appointments are appropriate for telemedicine?

Behavior issues Surgery incision checks Allergies, ears, skin issues
Nutrition discussions Medical progress exams Diarrhea
Medication management of chronic issues like diabetes, including refills Litterbox issues
(except inability to urinate)
Hospice and palliative care discussions for seniors and other ill patients
Issues while traveling Quality of life assessments Other minor illnesses and injuries

Others may be recommended by your pet’s doctor, including reviewing labwork or other diagnostics, following up on issues covered by a Health Assurance Plan, or post-hospitalization follow ups.

FAQ

What happens if the doctor tells me an in person exam is needed instead?

We are bound by certain rules by the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board that may limit how we are able to help you in a specific instance. However, to help you, if your pet’s doctor determines an in person exam is needed, you will receive a credit towards the in person exam. Note: telemedicine appointments are never appropriate for emergencies.

Why does the app require my card information?

Submitting card information helps for two reasons. For one, it helps secure and verify accounts (so there are no spam accounts). Secondly, it also helps secure a consultation. The fee listed is the maximum that we may charge, but the final cost will depend on the complexity and time associated with the case. All fees are less than a traditional in person exam and consultation. Certain consults are always free (see below).

But what about the fee for this…?

Certain consults are always free, including post surgery incision checks, reviewing labwork or other diagnostic tests, video conferencing with a doctor during a curbside exam, and services covered by Health Assurance Plans. For these consultations, the fee will always be waived. Card information is still required to secure and verify accounts and to secure a consultation, but the card will not be charged.

Can I request a specific doctor?

At this time there is not a way to select a particular doctor in the TeleVet app. However, the doctors will sort and assign appointments by whomever is most familiar with the patient and case. If they are not available, rest assured that all doctors at TCVH have full access to your pet’s medical history.

What if You Don’t Qualify for Financing?

If you do not qualify for financing with one of our lender partners, we encourage you to reach out to family or friends that know you well. In order to maintain our focus on patient care and customer service, and to keep costs as low as possible, we do not bill for services and do not offer in-house repayment plans.

Pet Insurance

It’s our strong belief that lifelong pet insurance is an excellent way to limit the financial hardship that can be associated with unexpected pet care expenses. Pet insurance provides peace of mind in the event of accidents or illnesses – it relieves a significant amount of the stress so that you can focus on getting your pet back to their best health.

There are a wide variety of pet insurance providers available, and we encourage you to evaluate the available options. However, in our experience, Trupanion provides the best value for most pet owners. Unlike many other providers, they offer:

  • Direct payments (meaning no pre-payment and waiting for reimbursement)
  • 90% coverage on eligible conditions
  • 24/7 customer service
  • Flexible plans tailored to your budget
  • Lifetime deductibles and no payout limits
  • Coverage for many conditions including congenital and hereditary conditions

For exotic pets like rabbits, birds, and lizards, we recommend Nationwide Pet Insurance (They’re currently the only option for exotic pets, but they’re a good one!)

Any questions about your pet’s coverage should be directed to your pet’s insurance company. We cannot answer questions about your pet’s coverage or provide guarantees of coverage. This is one of the many reasons we like Trupanion, though – they make this process quick and simple. They can even provide answers based on treatment plans (estimates) before care is provided.

Pet insurance does not cover routine, wellness focused care. However, we have options available for that as well — wellness plans.

Wellness Plans

We believe that wellness care is the foundation for a happy, healthy pet. It also helps us enjoy the most time with our companions and minimize the risk and cost of serious illnesses.

For wellness care, we provide affordable monthly packages. These plans include everything to keep your pet in their best health: heartworm and flea and tick medications, laboratory tests, physical examinations, spay/neuter surgery, dental x-rays and dental cleaning, and vaccinations.

We know that pets at different ages require different care; our plans are tailored to the age of your pet, with options available for kittens/puppies, adults, and senior pets.

Wellness plans pair well with pet insurance to ensure that you have full coverage and the ability to budget your pet’s care!

8/24/20 Update: We have completed our remodeling project and have added four additional exam rooms. We now have four appointment types available: in-person, curbside, telemedicine, and drop-off. The best option for you and your pet will depend on your preference and the reason for your visit. In compliance with state ordinances, clients entering the building will be asked a series of health screening questions and are required to wear a facial covering while on-site.

Are You or Anyone in Your Household Sick?

Please do not bring your pet in for a visit if you or anyone in your household are sick, if you have traveled recently, or if you suspect you have had exposure to someone who is sick. Please call us at 937-667-8489 to authorize a healthy friend, family member or other agent to bring your pet to their visit.

Summary of Procedural Changes – Medical Visits

We now have four medical appointment types available: in-person, curbside, telemedicine, and drop-off. Below is a summary of our new procedures based on the type of visit:

For In-Person, Curbside, and Drop-Off Visits:

    1. Prior to your pet’s scheduled exam, please complete an electronic pre-exam questionnaire using your computer, smartphone, or another device.
    2. Please ensure that cats, birds, and exotics travel in pet carriers.
    3. When you arrive at TCVH, please call 937-667-8489 and inform the team member of your name and pet’s name and the nature of your visit. Please also let them know the make/color of your vehicle and the parking space number you are currently parked in (all of our parking spaces are now numbered).
    4. If your pet normally needs to use the restroom before entering our building, please feel free to give them a potty break while you wait for a team member to serve you.

For Telemedicine Visits:

    1. If we have seen your pet within the past 12 months, a telemedicine appointment may be appropriate.
    2. Telemedicine appointments allow you and your pet to receive care from home.
    3. Visit our telemedicine page to learn more.
    4. Set up and schedule your virtual visit

For Medication Refills:

    1. Medication may be requested through our online pharmacy.
    2. Hospital dispensed medications can be requested by texting (937-667-8489), emailing us (info@tippvet.com), or calling us (937-667-8489).
    3. When you arrive at TCVH, please text or call 937-667-8489 and inform the team member of your name and pet’s name and the nature of your visit. Please also let them know the make/color of your vehicle and the parking space number you are currently parked in (all of our parking spaces are now numbered).

Summary of Procedural Changes – Lodging, Daycare, and Grooming Visits

Our new facility, the Tipp to Tail Pet Resort, is now open! Going forward, guests arriving for lodging, daycare, grooming, and training services should proceed to the new building (behind the hospital). We continue to offer curbside pick-up and drop-off for all visits, with direct access to our facility limited to guests answering several health screening questions and wearing a facial covering.

For Lodging/Daycare/Grooming Drop-offs/Pick-ups:

    1. When you arrive at TCVH for drop-off, please proceed to the new building behind the hospital. Once you’ve parked, please call 937-506-7610 and inform the team member of your name, your pet’s name, and the nature of your visit. Please also let them know the make/color of your vehicle and the parking space number you are currently parked in (all of our parking spaces are now numbered).
    2. If your pet normally needs to use the restroom before entering our building, please feel free to give them a potty break while you wait for a team member to serve you.

What if These Procedures Won’t Work for Your Pet?

If you have a situation where you are concerned these procedures are not feasible, please call us at 937-667-8489 first to discuss this so we can make a plan to take care of your pet in the safest way possible.

Important Policy Changes for Lodging, Daycare, and Grooming Visits

We have instituted new policies for pets visiting for lodging, daycare, and grooming services:

Limited Personal Belongings

Aside from food, treats, and medications, we ask that you not bring in personal belongings with your pet(s). We have ample in-house bedding to ensure that they are comfortable during their visit.

Avian and exotic pets are excluded from this policy. Please bring in whatever equipment and supplies are necessary for your pet to comfortably stay with us.

Mandatory Baths for Pets Associated with Confirmed COVID-19 Cases

There is a chance that we will need to lodge pets coming from households with confirmed COVID-19 exposure (ex. if a client requires extended medical treatment outside of their home). In these cases, the pet will be taken directly into our bathing room for a bath at the time of arrival. Following the bath, any surfaces touched by the pet will be thoroughly disinfected. Please do not personally bring your pet in for a visit if you or anyone in your household is sick. Please call us at 937-506-7610 to authorize a healthy friend, family member or other agent to bring your pet to their visit.

I’m very comfortable leaving my dog at the daycare facility. The people are very caring and professional. My dog is so happy when he gets there that he can’t wait to get out the car which it turns gives me a sense of relief.
His health needs are provided by Tipp Vet who are excellent. In an emergency situation they immediately address my dogs needs. I’m thankful to the entire organization.

Today was my puppy's first day at Tipp to Tail for daycare. He goes to the Tipp City Veterinary Hospital for healthcare. When we arrived, Joy took excellent care of us. Joy answered all my questions and explained everything very clearly.
When I picked my puppy up , Haley brought him out and gave me a very detailed accounting of his day and how he did with his new human and canine friends.
It is clear that the staff here enjoys what they do and really care about their clients.

My dogs love going whether for daycare or boarding. The staff here cares for them a great deal and you can tell when the dogs are racing to get inside! They came home after a day of boarding and haven’t moved since!
